That notable early entry on Roy's resume occurred in his hometown of Dundalk, Maryland in the late 1950's, and he's been building on it ever since.Roy's unique perspective on "…winning in the game of life", as he describes it in Never Beat the Boss…, began forming as a United States Marine in the jungles of Vietnam while serving as a field radio operator, where he received two meritorious combat promotions. That perspective was honed as a Juvenile Probation Officer in the suburban Washington, D.C area of Prince George's County, Maryland. The life-balance approach so obvious in his writing probably began to form when he left the urban/suburban milieu of Washington, D.C., to accept the position of Executive Secretary, Maryland Rural Affairs Council in the early '70's. With life experiences in jungle, urban, suburban and rural areas, Roy was ready to take on Corporate America, and take it on he did! Starting with several years as a top producer in the Johnson and Johnson Family of companies through his current position as an internationally sought-after speaker and trainer, Roy has re-defined what it takes to win in the game of life. Roy's first book, The Care and Keeping of Customers, has helped numerous organizations provide quality service and support to their customers, and his articles, and audio and video programs have helped countless others grow personally and professionally. He is a member of the International Federation of Professional Speakers, The International Customer Service Association and the National Speakers Association. As Roy mentions in Never Beat the Boss…, knowledge, contrary to popular belief, is not power – applied knowledge is power. He has served on the Board of Directors of the March of Dimes, as a volunteer fund raiser for the Georgia Alliance for Children, as a Meals-On-Wheels volunteer, as a Friendship Force Participant, and for over 25 years he has been Santa Claus to children, nursing homes and hospitals throughout metro Atlanta.
